Ingredients

Fruit filling
  • 6 cups Mixed berries (fresh or frozen)
  • 0.25 cup Granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp Cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp Lemon juice
Topping
  • 1 cup Old-fashioned oats
  • 0.5 cup All-purpose flour
  • 0.333 cup Light brown sugar
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp Salt
  • 2 tbsp Unsweetened applesauce

Equipment

  • Baking Dish
  • Mixing Bowls
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Spatula
  • Aluminum Foil

Method

Step 1: Preparing the Ingredients
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Wash and dry the berries and cherries. If using frozen, thaw and drain excess liquid.
  3. In a large bowl, combine berries, granulated sugar, cornstarch, and lemon juice. Mix well and set aside.
Step 2: Preparing the Topping
  1. In another bowl, combine oats, all-purpose flour, light brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. Add unsweetened applesauce and mix until the dry ingredients are evenly moistened.
Step 3: Assembling the Dish
  1. Transfer the fruit mixture to the prepared baking dish.
  2. Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the fruit, covering it completely.
Step 4: Baking
  1. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit filling is bubbling around the edges.
  2. If the topping starts to brown too quickly, cover it loosely with aluminum foil.

Notes

Let rest for 5-10 minutes before serving to allow the fruit filling to thicken.
